The Sunday School Singers are ready to begin sharing some of their favorite songs with the congregation. Mark your calendars for the 3rd Sunday of each month to come and encourage them as they worship Jesus. If you have a little one that loves to sing and learn about Jesus, start this week by bringing them to church. The children meet during the message for songs, lessons, Bible verses and crafts. The service starts at 9.
Throughout his ministry Jesus often got alone to pray to the Father. God does not need Jesus to pray to know his thoughts and needs. Why then would Jesus seek out time to pray to God and what does that mean for us?
On the night of his arrest Jesus was very distressed and sorrowful. He is about to be crucified. But for the first time he will also be rejected by the Father. He will be alone. The communion between father and son will be severed on that cross. And the wrath of God will be poured out upon him. But all of the wrath, pain and suffering does not compare to the feeling of being separated from God. Jesus knew he would be resurrected. But the thought of separation brought him to his knees pleading to the Father, to take the cup from him and then, but ‘not my will but thine’.
In his humanity, Jesus needed to pray for his connection to God the father. Just the thought of not being connected to the Father, caused him to sweat blood. If Jesus sees prayer and connection to the Father as a priority, how much more should we?
Life happens. Seeking and connecting with God through prayer gives us strength for the journey ahead. Start today. Ask for help if you don’t know where to begin. See you Sunday at 128 W. Jones Street.
