Williamsville United Methodist Church

What would you do for someone who literally saved your life? What would you sacrifice for them?

This week’s lesson comes from Mark, chapter 14, verses 1-9. Two days before Jesus was to be arrested, a woman came to the house of Simon the leper where Jesus was eating dinner with his friends. All social stigmas aside, she entered the house and broke open a jar of expensive ointment, costing about a year’s wages, her most costly possession. She poured the ointment on Jesus’ head as a symbol of her love. She alone understood that Jesus was the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world. In two days he would be sacrificed for her sins and the sins of all people.

In 2022, what is the proper response after learning someone died for all the sins of the world? Gratitude or indifference? Love or hate?  Ignoring or sharing? Greed or selflessness? Believing or Unbelief?

Scripture provides the answers. The Holy Spirit provides the understanding. The church’s mission is to share the message. Each of us must make the decision for ourselves on how to respond.
