Jesus called on Matthew, a Roman tax collector, and invited himself to dinner. The common people accused tax collectors of lining their own pocket. Matthew’s only friends were other tax collectors. They were considered scum of the earth. Yet Jesus wanted to eat with him. Why?
Sin had infiltrated every human heart. Jesus came to earth to show mercy to sinners. God loves each one so much he sent his own Son to befriend sinners knowing he would die on a cross as our substitutionary sacrifice. Who would ever do that?… Only God, someone who loves everyone so much it pains him to think of even one of us living in hell for eternity, would die for sinners.
We’re beginning a new Sunday morning class October 2 after church for ages 6th grade to still breathing… The class, “Road-Trip to Truth”, is from 10:15 – 10:58. Bring your coffee and a notebook to write down questions/notes. Pastor Shane Sims will be leading the class and the topics lend themselves to discussion. You do not have to be a member of any church to come. Hope to see you.
