Cunningham Festival of Quilts

Recently Lois Guffey, Polly Wise, Martha Purchis, and Kathy Lemme attended the festival. They saw and admired many beautiful quilts. Pastor Gay Crede gave them a tour of Cunningham campus and explained about the many programs offers. This great day was ended with lunch at Reverend Dan and Pastor Gay’s home.

Our Quilt Story
taking from the Festival of Quilts program

Young people are referred to Cunningham for many reasons, including a history of abuse, neglect, trauma, and mental health issues. Many have experienced rejection and loss. Cunningham offers opportunities for healing and hope.

When youth arrive at Cunningham, they are greeted with a welcome basket filled with supplies and a handmade quilt for their bed. After youth have had the opportunity to heal, learn and grow, they prepare to transition to another place and are given a quilt, hand-picked for them, to take as a reminder of the warmth, safety and love they found here. It’s a beautiful tradition we celebrate through our signature fundraiser, the Festival of Quilts, which honors the United Methodist Women, the quilts they and quilters from across Illinois have made and donated for our youth since 1985 page2image55807856

Midwest Mission is looking for donations of flannel fabric by the yard in order to make the cloth diapers and receiving blankets for the Midwest Mission Layette Kits.
In choosing fabric for any of the Midwest Mission patterns, please do NOT use fabric that has:

  • Camouflage

  • Paw Prints

Midwest Mission asks this due to the majority of these items being sent to developing countries and we need to be respectful of their customs and beliefs.
